Specialty Gardens
Our specialty gardens include butterfly and hummingbird gardens, native plant gardens, xeriscapes and more. It's possible to create a special garden environment for whatever your interests, needs, and type of property.
Due to relatively heavy urban development in our area, it is especially important to help our insect, bird and animal friends by providing them with proper habitats that are otherwise constantly disappearing.

Butterfly Gardens
Many gardeners are becoming more interested in luring these beautiful creatures to their yards. By providing the basic habitat needed (food, shelter and water) it's easy to have more of these colorful visitors each year!

Hummingbird Gardens
Many of us enjoy watching hummingbirds at our feeders during the summer months. To attract them to your garden and keep them around, you must meet their requirements for food, shelter and nesting spots.
These jeweled wonders expend incredible amounts of energy while flying. In fact, hummingbirds can consume up to half of their body weight in nectar each day. However, their diet also includes insects and they drink nectar for energy to fly about in search of prey.
Hummingbirds spend a great deal of time resting and guarding their nectar sources. Therefore, perching areas in the form of trees and shrubs are needed. You can often see them perch on branches close to your feeder. They seem to prefer a nearby water source and can sometimes be seen splashing in fountains or bird baths.

Shade Gardens
In our mountainous location, many homes are located in naturalistic areas with mature hardwoods and stately evergreens. For many homeowners, full sun gardening isn't an option. However, that doesn't mean you have to settle for large, dark areas covered with mulch or leaves. Beautiful foliage plants and many woodland natives prefer shady areas. We can help select attractive plants that flourish in this type of environment.

Xeriscapes
Naturalists agree that an adequate supply of quality water is one of our most critical future needs. Drought, urban sprawl, and needless waste all tax our precious water supply. Xeriscaping conserves water by selecting proper plants, grouping plants of similar water needs together, mulching, and by employing efficient irrigation practices.
Xeriscapes aren't cactus gardens. Native North Carolina plants are naturally adapted to our region and perform quite well in a xeriscape situation, unlike many introduced exotics. Plus, when subjected to water stress, many exotics are more susceptible to pests and disease.
